Regular readers know that the gnomes have been working on a secret project for some time now, and we’ve been tight-lipped about details.
Thanks to the way GenCon event registration is timed, as of today our first official teaser about the project has gone live:
SEM1009173
Eureka! Cooking Up Adventure Plots with Gnome StewJoin the infamous Gnomes of Gnome Stew, and learn about their first book: Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters. Get a first-hand introduction to this game-saving book, catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the most popular GMing blog in the Prime Material Plane, learn our secret ingredient, and help celebrate kilts. Be sure to stick around and consult the Gnomes about your own GMing questions. No flash photography or shoe mirrors.
OK, technically that’s three tidbits:
- 1. It’s a book!
- 2. It’s called Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots to Inspire Game Masters.
- 3. And it’s going to be out before GenCon.
Since we’re in revealin’ mode, I’ll add two more:
- 4. Eureka is being developed by a team of 19 talented, creative people, including all nine gnomes. (I still have trouble wrapping my head around that!).
- 5. There’s a world of difference between adventure plots and adventure hooks. We cannot WAIT to tell you more about this.
- 6. To the best of our knowledge, no one has produced a gaming book quite like this one before.
Stay tuned for much more info about Eureka over the next few weeks!
Oh no! You were supposed to put those extra points into Stealth!
I did not think I could keep it in any longer. I cannot wait until you all see what we did.
@Scott Martin – I’ll bet all those points probably went into GM Lore. I’m looking forward to this book!
That project is very exciting. Can’t wait to see what you have in store.
It’s been (and is still being) a lot of work, but it’s totally worth it to produce something like this!
Since we’re in revealin’ mode, I’ll add two more:
4…
5…
6…
That’s three, sir!
awesome.
What, my leaking gaffes weren’t enough? At least I killed . . . I mean bribed everyone who I accidentally sent emails to.
This is going to be a great little book. It’s the kind that I would buy from a store, if I didn’t have a hand in making it.
Many might say that this book is just the ultimate GM’s tool that has the potential to eliminate boring tabletop RPG sessions from ever happening.
I SAY RUBBISH! SUCH CLAIMS ARE RIDICULOUS!!!
This book is obviously capable of solving much greater problems. Using these plots as models for both economic and social institutions you can bring about world peace.
You might be asking: But what about the quickly approaching alien invaders? Well this book will help mankind deal with that as well, for our plots will help military leaders quickly devise superior strategies that will allow the people of the world to quickly defend against and defeat the lizard people of Shrxx’klf when they arrive. The invaders will quickly be given copies of this book and realize that it would be better for all to give us their advanced technology in order to deliver copies of Eureka! to the entire universe.
And you have the gnomes (both past and present) to thank for this quickly approaching golden age.
Therefore the least that you can do is buy the book to show us your gratitude. 🙂
@Patrick Benson – And, if it’s not too much, you can give us our own island nation. The Caymans would be perfect, hint-hint…
Really looking forward to this book coming out. I love sources of ideas that can set my imagination blazing as a GM.
I think this is going to be really good!
Thanks for the interest so far, everyone!
We’re closing in on publication at a breakneck pace, and as soon as we have sample pages locked in with final layout, we’ll be sharing them with you. 🙂
Can’t wait to get my hands on this one. Keep up the great work, O’ Mighty Gnomes!
How much do you think this will cost? Long as this is affordable (less than Pathfinder Core Rules) I think I’ll get it. But I’m hoping for a nice sized $20 book. Preferably one that fits in the back pocket of my jeans so I don’t actually need to carry things.
This is going to be released in stores right? Not just online or at conventions?
aren’t you even a little bit concerned that Kobold Rogue Press appears to be working on the exact same thing? and theirs has 502 plots. (a preview of plot #502, released on their website, is titled “Gnomes have Stinky Passwords”)
@Razjah – Re: cost, this is going to be an affordable book, and definitely less than the Pathfinder core rulebook. It won’t be pocket-sized in any way, though — but we will also be selling it in PDF, the “goes anywhere” version. 😉
We won’t know the price point until we see how it shakes out in layout, although of course we have a pretty good idea. We’d rather not share a half-baked idea, though.
We’re shooting for retail distribution, but don’t have it lined up yet. At the outset, Eureka will be available online in print and PDF, likely at a variety of outlets.
Good questions!
@drow – What!? Dang it, I guess we’ll just have to skip this whole book thing, then…
Just kidding — although I think my heart skipped a beat when I read your first sentence. 😉
For those interested I started a thread over at YouMeetInATavern.com about Eureka:

I’d love to hear what others are thinking about the project now that it has been announced!
That sounds amazing! Cant wait!
