HIGH A well-executed mirror mechanism.
LOW The final boss is a lesson in patience.

We’ve recently seen a sharp increase in requests to preview games, and one that caught my eye was the puzzle platformer, Ugly. While the name didn’t pique interest, the cartoon style and its mechanics intrigued me. The demo is short and sweet, but shows promise.
HIGH Simple but effective animations with a lot of heart.
LOW Toggling between furniture/objects is sluggish.
WTF The inhuman (and vaguely horrifying) faces of the characters.
HIGH Beautiful hand painted graphics.
LOW Relaxing gameplay… perhaps too relaxing.
WTF Not recommended for those with Entomophobia
HIGH Some of the puzzles are entertaining.
LOW Hearing the main character’s terrible voice acting again and again.
WTF It’s so bad, I had to disable her voice altogether.
HIGH The art style is beautiful and supports strong ambience and mystery.
LOW Puzzles don’t evolve much and grow stale after a bit.
WTF Those claws scare the crap out of me.
HIGH That unique feeling from flipping the 2D plane for the first time.
LOW Being stuck on the same puzzle since 2012.
WTF The knowledge there won’t ever be a Fez 2.
2D puzzle-platformers can quickly grow stale for me. Unless there’s an innovative mechanic or engaging story, most games in the genre lose my attention. However, Nerd Monkey’s Out of Line aims to liven up the formula with an interesting spear and boomerang mechanic and gorgeous art design. It looks to be a standout platformer, even to someone like me.
Welcome to This Is Not A Review. In these articles we discuss general impressions, ideas and thoughts on any given game, but as the title implies, it’s not a review. Instead, it’s an exercise in offering a quick recommendation (or dismissal) after spending enough time to grasp the ideas and gameplay of a thing without necessarily playing it from A to Z.
The subject of this installment: Drawn to Life: Two Realms available on Nintendo Switch, Android, Microsoft Windows, iOS, developed by Digital Continue and published by 505 Games.
HIGH That art style.
LOW Man, I’m too dumb when it comes to puzzle games.
WTF Wait, why am I crying?
