Heh heh heh – seriously though, I know that Dogma’s original menu music was bound to be divisive. For me however it was a great big middle finger to all the focus testing that tends to dominate the industry these days, and I appreciated the punk spirit behind the gesture. Also, I happen to genuinely like the tune which probably helps quite a bit.

Maybe I’m just an ancient, out of touch wreck hauling my outdated carcass slowly towards the grave, but Dangan reminded me quite a bit on the old days when you’d get those guitar driven intros on the Saturn. Stuff that didn’t care if it wasn’t to everyone’s taste, like the themes to Burning Rangers or Fighting Vipers. J-rock’s never going to win any popularity contests in the west, but seeing it proudly fronting the original Dogma – well, it was heartwarming in a way that’s tough to describe in any form outside of, say, interpretive dance.

Then there’s the opposite side of the argument where it causes certain people’s ears to bleed and they start clawing bloody strips out of themselves whilst screaming and begging for the pain to stop. Say one thing for Dangan however, say that nobody comes away from it indifferent – and that’s a minor victory in itself.

I’ve got to respectfully disagree on the title music. The old intro tune was so cringe-inducingly bad I’d be hammering the start button to get into the game before the vocals started.
